TIUA Bikers Do Well in Bike Commute Challenge

altEach September, the Bicycle Transportation Authority (BTA) holds a Bike Commute Challenge throughout the state.  The 2011 Challenge saw participation from 1450 workplace teams and more than 12,000 individual riders.  Together participants logged over 1,360,000 miles of bike commutes.

Of all commutes by TIUA employees made in September, 23.2% were made on bike by TIUA bikers registered for the Challenge.  TIUA employees rode 588 miles, up from 358 last year.

TIUA had the highest "bike commute rate" of any Salem business or non-profit with fewer than 25 full-time-equivalent employees, except for bicycle shops, which are in a category of their own.

A special thanks to riders Russell, JoAnn, Jane (from home to her van pool), J. Elizabeth, Christine, Melanie, Bill and Toru.  Toru made 100% of his September trips by bike, JoAnn had the longest round trip commute, and Russell pedaled the most miles -- and keeps pedaling in the rain!
